Excited to host “SPOTLIGHT” Author,
Flossie Benton Rogers!!
Why do you write?
I’ve been writing all my life and penned my first fairy tale as a child. Writing is a way of delving into the mythology and fairy tales that I love so much. Plus, writing is a passion and obsession. After retirement as library director my beloved husband Ronnie encouraged me to write full time. I began to learn the craft of modern novel writing, with a thousand thanks to author, writing mentor, and critique partner Loretta C. Rogers.
Where do you find most of your inspiration?
By turn, in grandiose and inconspicuous places. Sources of inspiration are everywhere. I’m stirred by the mythologies of the world and the fairy tales I read as a child. Nature engenders sparks of stories– from the faces I see in trees to the jeweled brilliance of the night sky. People, places, events. Music, lyrics, dreams. All the world is alive and waiting to whisper the tales we come to think of as our own.
How do your own experiences and life events influence your books?
Facets of all my stories are based on real life, particularly the truth of eternal love. Authenticity also comes from my background in meditation and circle work, Reiki, and Essential Energy Balancing. I like to incorporate my interests in alternative realities, gemstones, runes, and tarot.
Do you work on more than one project at a time?
Yes, during the writing of a book, one or more secondary characters will begin asking for their stories to be told. I try not to work in a haphazard fashion, but neither is it a linear fashion. I enjoy the energy of having numerous characters come to life at any given time to star in their own books. I also enjoy planning other series and getting to know characters from different worlds.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I like to spend time with my Snickerdoodles (grandsons ages 10 and 8), commune with my feline fur fae Marigold, read, crochet, paint, and go on family excursions.
What is something about you that most people don’t know?
As a teenager my friends and I formed a rock band called The Persian Blue. I played drums.
I have numerous books in the hopper, including, but not limited to:
Soul Weaver, the 7th book in the Wytchfae Series
Frost Fyre and Other Poems, a poetry anthology
Lucien’s Angel, a Wytchfae prequel
Mistletoe Magic, a small town light paranormal romance set in 1952, one of a 3-part series
Aphrodite’s Revenge, a standalone dark fantasy romance
